Words of Wisdom

So for those of you that don't know, I originally went to school and got my undergrad in biology. I graduated a semester early and quickly realized that degree wasn't what I truly wanted to do. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what it was I was good at and what my interests were. I am now proud to say that I am once again going back to school for communications/marketing.

Internships were never something I had to consider as a biology major, but as a communications major an internship can be the difference between landing a stellar job or being unemployed. Im trying to get a head start on this process, but had no idea where to start. Enter Lauren Berger, the Intern Queen.

This book has seriously been a lifesaver! Lauren Berger has certainly earned the title of Intern Queen, because she had a total of 15 internships during her undergraduate career! She's interned for the likes of FOX, MTV, and NBC!

Lauren walks you through the entire internship process from the initial application process all the way to time management after you've landed the internship. She also discusses the importance of self branding and networking. She even has a website Intern Queen, where you can upload your resume and search for available internships across the country! I had no idea how pivotal landing an internship would be for future job opportunities, but Im thankful I stumbled across this book.

If you're thinking about an internship, or looking for ways to better yourself professionally through self branding, social media, etc. you should definitely look into this book!

Happy Monday!
Ashley

I so wish that you had known this back in college so we could have done classes together! :) Good luck with getting an internship! What field are you looking at going into, or just marketing in general?

Just came across your blog, I have a degree in communications as well. When I found out I had to do an internship in order to graduate I was not pleased, but I am so glad I had to! My internship was the greatest experience and I finally knew what I wanted to do when I graduated because of it. Thanks for sharing this information. :)
